La famille des Bugeaud/Bugeauld changes son nom a travers du temps. trois grande épellations peut être retrouver aujourd’hui; Bujold (Acadien), Bugeaud(certaines descendance du Quebec) et Bijeau(x) (Cajun de la Louisiane et certaine famille au Nouveau Brunswick). Bugeaud se change en louisianne pour devenir Bujol, Bijeau, Bijeaux, Bugeau, et Bugeaux)
Durant nos recherches nous avons rencontré plusieurs différentes épellations pour le nom Bugeauld. La plupart des variations sont due directement à l’écrivain du temps. La langue était dans la plupart des cas écrit phonétiquement. Ce qui explique les variations dans leurs épellations.
Dépendant de leur origine, éducation etc. le nom prend différente forme dans son écrit.
Il faut aussi comprendre que la langue Française était dans ses début. Avec la création de l’Académie Française (1635) qui avait pour but d’unifier et définir la langue Française, on voit plusieurs changes dans son écrit au cours des années. On aperçoit dans les documents du temps des changes dans la langue tel que « Xaintonge » qui devient « Saintonge » et la lettre « F » qui deviendra la lettre « S » dans certains mots.
Même Allain Bugeauld, notre premier ancêtre, écrit son nom durant les premières années comme BUGEAUD pour le changer et signer son nom comme BUGEAULD dans les documents légaux. Ce qui indique que phonétiquement sont épellation est transformer pour mieux refléter sa prononciation exacte et rester en accord avec l’évolution de la langue.

During our research we encountered several different spellings for the name Bugeauld. Most of the variations are due directly to the writer of the time.

Depending on the writers origin, education etc. the name takes different spellings.
We must also understand that the French language was in its beginning. With the creation of the French Academy (1635) which aimed to unify and define the French language, we see several changes in his writing over the years. We can see for example in old documents the spelling such as “Xaintonge” becomes “Saintonge” and the letter “F” become the letter “S” in certain words.
